One-on-One with Tim Sullivan

September 4, 2017

Born and schooled in Barcaldine Tim is driven, and passionate about the aerospace industry.

Tim aims to build upon the opportunities he has been given in order to excel in his role at Boeing Defence Australia.  Through his involvement as an Executive Member of the Australian Youth Aerospace Association (AYAA), Tim feels obliged to assist fellow students to find similar opportunities of their own. As a student, he had a keen interest in topics including manufacturing, materials and systems engineering.

Tim will be heading to Westech Field Days this year as part of the Free Entrepreneur Matching Program being run in the Innovation Space & Technology Precinct. We’ve asked Tim a few questions so you can get to know him, and then if you’re interested you can register to meet Tim in a ‘one on one mentoring moment’ here.

What does innovation mean to you?
To me, innovation is finding solutions to everyday problems in ways that are not only effective, but also simple and efficient.

Who would you love to see registering for your mentoring sessions?
I’d love to talk young people who might have a goal but aren’t sure of what they need to do to achieve it.

What is the best piece of business advice you’ve been given?
Knowing what you don’t know is more important than what you know.

What is your advice to anyone thinking about starting up their own business?
I’ve never started my own business however I feel like it’s important to have the strength to see things through. I also think it would be important to be adaptable, as you can always bank on something going wrong.

Who has been the most influential person in your career?
I learned a great work ethic from my parents which I will take with me wherever I go, but also Chris Smith, the GM of Boeing Defence Australia who has provided me with some incredible opportunities and given some really good advice.

What is your greatest achievement?
My greatest would be landing a job with the company I’ve always wanted to work for, before graduating uni.
